Super-heavy Quarkonia as a probe of the QCD Vacuum
نویسنده
چکیده
The phenomenon of gluon condensation is under vital discussion since more than fifteen years now [1]. The gluon condensate is an important quantity not only in the sum rule approach but also in high-energy hadron scattering and phenomenological models of confinement. Despite many indications of a non-trivial vacuum the quantitative picture is still vague [3]. Quarkonia are the simplest hadronic systems that allow to test the vacuum structure of QCD. Heavy quarks can be treated as non-relativistic objects in a gluonic vacuum making them tangible to numerical simulations and perturbative calculations.

Studying the production or decay processes of heavy quarkonia (the bound state of heavy quark-antiquark) is a powerful tool to test our understanding of strong interaction dynamics and QCD theory. Fragmentation is the dominant production mechanism for heavy quarkonia with large transverse momentum. The fragmentation refers to the production process of a parton with high transverse momentum whic...
متن کاملThe Role of the Qcd Vacuum in the Heavy-quark Bound State Dynamics A
It is well known that the complex structure of the QCD vacuum can, in some regimes, be parametrized by local vacuum condensates, i.e. the expectation values of operators where all the perturbative vacuum fluctuations are taken out at the best of our ability . The first attempt to calculate the effect of non-perturbative vacuum condensates on the energy levels of heavy quarkonia was performed in...
متن کاملHard Probes of Dense Matter
Direct probes for the QGP must be hard enough to resolve sub-hadronic scales (≪ Λ −1 QCD) and distinguish confined and deconfined media. This can be achieved by fast colour charges (jets) and heavy quark resonances (quarkonia). After a general survey, we study quarkonia as confinement probe and show in particular that confined matter is transparent, deconfined matter opaque to J/ψ's.

Bound states of heavy quarks (charmonium and bottomonium) provide a rich laboratory for spectroscopy in QCD [1]. Potential models have been widely and successfully applied to charmonium and bottomonium spectra in vacuum, and the validity of the approach has received further support from lattice QCD (lQCD). It is therefore promising to extend the potential approach to finite temperatures, T. Med...
متن کاملJ/ψ Suppression in Nucleus-nucleus Collisions
At high temperatures, strongly interacting matter becomes a plasma of deconfined quarks and gluons. In statistical QCD, deconfinement and the properties of the resulting quark-gluon plasma can be investigated by studying the in-medium behaviour of heavy quark bound states. In high energy nuclear interactions, quarkonia probe different aspects of the medium formed in the collision. So, we first ...
